Outlets can be really great or not-so-great. It depends very much on what you’re looking for. The advantage with outlets is that sometimes the prices can be heavily discounted due to factory-direct sales to the end user. This isn’t something one can count on but should rather be seen as a bonus.

Many outlets near NYC are located in New Jersey which has the added advantage of no sales tax. That means you don’t have to pay the 8% sales tax required in NYC.

One of the outlets that we have visited is Jersey Gardens. It can be generally compared with a usual shopping mall with the difference that the shops have a fairly limited assortment and somewhat lower prices. Among the shops to found are GAP, Nike Factory Outlet, Banana Republic, Benetton, Polo Sport, Footlocker and many more.

Even if it is worth a visit don’t be disappointed if you don’t find as many bargains as you perhaps hoped for.

If you don’t want to risk traveling all the way to New Jersey and being disappointed then there are outlets in Manhattan also. Among those there is Century 21 situated on 22 Cortlandt Street where the claim is made that their prices are between 25 and 75% lower compared with usual shops.
